Doctor experiments on eating 80% “processed food” for 30 days, reveals shocking results before and after

A doctor decided to eat mostly “processed foods” for a month to study the effects on his body.

Dr. Chris van Tullekhen is no stranger to experimenting with food for scientific purposes.

He had previously experimented with eating different foods from his twin brother to compare the results, and also advised against processed foods for long-term health.

Dr Chris van Tulleken conducted this experiment for 30 days for the 2021 BBC documentary What Are We Feeding Our Kids?

Before he started, he explained that his typical, relatively healthy diet consists of about 20% processed foods, but he increased the proportion to 80% to reflect the eating habits of the one in five Brits who regularly eat this way.

Dr van Tullekhen wants to see what the changes will mean for health, with the UK’s leading obesity experts monitoring the results to ensure they meet scientific standards.

His menu items include fried chicken, microwaved lasagna, frozen cheese-crusted pizza, oven-baked French fries, and other fast food items.

He noticed that although he normally ate when he felt hungry, the hunger became more frequent as time went on.

As he reads the ingredients on the packaging of these foods, Dr. Van Tullekhen also asks, “What flavor am I eating? What are they trying to make me taste? And how does all this feel in my mouth?”

Dr. Van Tullekhan revealed that he had problems with defecation, to the point where he could not defecate for up to 48 hours.

Soon, the 30-day trial was over and it was time to check the results.

The before and after pictures show that he gained significant weight over the course of the month, and it wasn’t just the weight that changed.

His weight gained 15 pounds (6.5 kg) in four weeks, while his body mass index (BMI) increased by two points, putting him in the overweight category, and his แทงบอล UFABET ราคาดีที่สุด ไม่มีขั้นต่ำ body fat increased by another three pounds (3 kg).

Dr. van Tullekhan explains that if he continues to gain weight at this rate, he will gain up to 38 kilograms in just six months.

In terms of brain function and hormone levels, obesity experts say his hunger hormones are up by 30 percent, which explains why he feels hungry all the time even after eating a lot, while his satiety hormones are down.

The doctor’s brain also changed. Scans showed that eating processed foods caused new connections in the brain.

“Comparisons of brain scans showed that my food had linked pleasure centers in my brain to areas that automatically elicit repetitive behaviors,” he explains.

Dr. Van Tullekhan added that eating processed foods was not something he really wanted, but rather his brain was automatically sending him signals to eat.
